when your asphalt is initially paved its a smooth black surface. overtime it loses the rich black colour and starts to turn light grey colour. the reason this happens is because the component called tar which contains essential oils and keeps asphalt protected has slowly disappeared from your pavement. This is due to many various factors such as water, ice, extreme cold and oxidization .
